Another Unexpected Resignation Rocks The Obama Administration

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Just hours after Barack Obama accepted the resignation of beleaguered Department of Veterans Affairs Sec. Eric Shinseki, he announced the unforeseen departure of White House Press Secretary Jay Carney.

“I’m going to miss him a lot,” Obama said of the 49-year-old who replaced Robert Gibbs about three years ago.

The outgoing administration mouthpiece alluded to some of the difficulties he has encountered during his time at the helm, concluding that it has nonetheless been an enjoyable experience.

“It’s not all pretty,” he explained, “It could certainly be better. But to be part of it is certainly an honor and a joy for me.”

His resignation is expected to take effect within the next couple of weeks; and according to reports, he will be succeeded by Deputy Press Secretary Josh Earnest. Obama offered a final command on Carney’s behalf to members of the press gathered for the announcement.

“Be nice to him on his farewell tour,” he said.

The move, which took many media outlets by surprise given its close proximity to Shinseki’s announcement, did not come entirely out of the blue.

As Western Journalism reported earlier this year, sources close to Carney have hinted that his time as press secretary was limited. The man now poised to replace him refused to respond to those rumors at the time.

“We routinely decline to comment on the speculation about personnel matters,” Earnest said.

Prior to the most recent predictions, Mediate published an article describing him as “stressed and burned out,” wondering if the time had come for him to step down. Not only did the report indicate that Carney had become increasingly terse when dealing with reporters; it hypothesized that he could have a more comfortable – and lucrative – career within a left-leaning media organization.

Critics of the administration posted their thoughts on the announcement to Twitter.
