If Pigs Could Vote They Would Definitely Support Michelle After What They Just Got

There is plenty of anecdotal evidence proving that public school students are turned off by the nutrition guidelines imposed in recent years with the expressed approval of Michelle Obama. Not only are the resulting school lunches unappetizing; many districts across the nation are losing money as they try to abide by increasingly strict mandates.

While some students might say that current cafeteria food is unfit even for a pig, one Rhode Island community is putting that very assertion to the test.

According to a recent article in the Woonsocket Call, thousands of pigs on farms in Burrillville are being fed the copious scraps that result from uneaten school lunches. A coordinated effort among local school and recycling officials, the report indicates the leftovers are successfully converted to feed for pigs at one local farm in particular.

The program has been well-received by local farmers and the community and, the paper reports, is set to expand in the near future.

Of course, it would be quite difficult to make any connections between the first lady’s nutrition campaign and the pigs’ new menu. What seems clear, however, is that there is far more food waste associated with public school meal programs since the implementation of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act four years ago and further regulation in the years since.

A report earlier this year showed that more than a million kids are no longer even considering school lunch an option. Once popular food options are no longer available, and in their place are bizarre concoctions put on trays with the solitary goal of complying with these standards.

While Michelle Obama is more than happy dictating what the average American student may eat while in school, when her own daughters are involved, private school chefs are on duty to prepare elaborate spreads at lunchtime.

As Western Journalism reported, Sasha and Malia enjoy a variety of delicacies that, under their mother’s plan for public school kids, would likely be banned outright.
