Muslims Raising Money for Islamic College in California
Muslims are currently raising funds for the first Islamic college in the United States. Zaytuna College hopes to become the fist accredited 4 year liberal arts college for Muslims in the US. Says Sheikh Hamza Yusef “If you have distinctive views of the world, it’s important to have institutions to pass on that view”. Imam Zaid Shakir said “In order to have an American Muslim identity, we needed leaders who were raised in institutions here to lead those communities” . For fundraising the schools goals are a $5 million endowment by the end of 2010 and a $30 million endowment in 5 years.
