Republicans Just Can’t Keep Their Hands Out of Women’s Uteruses

RALEIGH, N.C. — North Carolina is doing an about-face on abortion policy, with a slate of proposals that seek to limit abortions under consideration in the Legislature.

A House of Representatives Judiciary Committee is scheduled to vote Wednesday on a package of changes that abortion-rights opponents have pushed for years. They include a 24-hour waiting period for women seeking abortions, a requirement for ultrasounds and a description of the images by medical providers, and a requirement that minors seeking abortions have notarized parental consent.

The 2010 election was the first one in many years in which the majority of women voters supported the Republican Party.  It was also the first election in as many years that the Republican Party focused primarily on economic and fiscal issues and left the social garbage on the back burner.  You think that’s a coincidence?

Once again we have a fantastic example of that “limited” government that the Republicans are always preaching about and promising us.  More people, like myself, might actually believe them if they practiced it, but like a heroine addict looking for his latest fix, the GOP just cannot ween themselves off of this stupid abortion issue.  They always, always run back to it.

I don’t have a problem with the parental consent part for minors in this proposal.  That’s just common sense, but the rest of it is no business whatsoever of any single member of the state or federal government who thinks they hold some moral superiority over the rest of us.  It is none of their business if an ultrasound is done.  It is none of their concern if someone waits 24 hours or two hours before having the procedure.

I have said before that I oppose the practice of abortion.  I find it repulsive and savage.  What I find even more repulsive, however, is Big Brother Government poking its nose into the very personal and private decisions of the American people.  This is an individual’s decision, not the government’s.

Perhaps if the Republican Party would keep their hands off of women’s wombs and butt the hell out, they might fare better with them at election time.
