JIHAD AS AN ECONOMIC POLICY: Islamic Leader's Outrageous Plan for Post-Revolution Egypt

While Egypt continues to find its way following the revolution that ousted Hosni Mubarak earlier this year, the people are growing impatient with the interim military rule’s progress on ushering in a democratic government.

Unfortunately, until a new government is in place, many still harbor concerns about a theocratic party, such as the high-profile Muslim Brotherhood, taking power especially given the likes of Abu Ishak Al Huweini (pictured) offering their own brand of policy advice to anyone who will listen.

Avi Lipkin is an Israeli citizen, former member of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and a well-informed U.S.-Israeli policy expert, who is following events in Egypt very closely and making the rounds on the Talk shows to discuss just how dangerous and, alarmingly, widespread Al Huweini’s opinions are in the region.

Al Huweini is a well-known Islamic leader in Egypt , who regularly appears on Egyptian TV as a self-proclaimed authority on economic policy for the struggling nation. Rooted in fundamentalist Islam and, arguably, drifting well into the realm of extremism, Al Huweini most recently made some assertions that, even by his standard, shocked many:

“The reason we are poor now is because we have abandoned jihad,” Al Huweini said. “If only we can conduct a jihadist invasion at least once a year or, if possible, twice or three times, then many people on Earth would become Muslims. And if anyone prevents our dawa or stands in our way, then we must kill them or take as hostage and confiscate their wealth, women and children…This can be like financial shelter whereby a jihadist, in time of financial need, can always sell one of these heads. No one can make that much money in one deal (from hard work) even if a Muslim goes to the West to work…”

We need to keep a close eye on this radical Islamist leader and keep tabs on the Egyptian Military council as well to ensure the opposing “Free Egyptians” party gets their fair chance for an honest election.
