Ungrateful peasants: The left-wing elite react to their abandonment by the European people.

‘Peasants’ are supposed to be grateful to their socialist overlords.

The people are revolting!

Portugal has become the latest country to kick their socialist government to the curb.

The Dutch newspaper the Volkskrant points out this follows a European trend:

In Germany the conservative CDU/CSU rule together with the (economic-)liberal FDP. Great Britain has a similar composition with the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats. In France the right-wing UMP of Nicholas Sarkozy holds the scepter, while in Italy the troubled Berlusconi continues to sit on his right-wing throne.

The Danes are similar to the Netherlands. Also there a center-right minority government rules with a support party, the Danish Folks Party. Just as the Party for Freedom of Wilders this support party demands stronger crime punishments and less immigration.

The articles goes on to say that even the once solidly socialist Scandinavia has recently turned right, and left-wing governments in Greece and Spain are in trouble.

With leftists clearly faltering at the ballot boxes across Europe, one wonders what leftists must think of the situation. How do they explain it? What do they think is to blame for their misfortune? Do they realize that they have perhaps made some serious mistakes?

Today I was lucky enough to get answers to these questions — as well as insight to left-wing mentality — by attending a guest lecture from a left-wing professor and political scientist.

He started by explaining that he has been active in ‘radical politics’ for nearly 30 years, first as a member of the Communist Party Netherlands and today the Socialist Party, and is therefore understandably ‘deeply disappointed’ with recent developments.

He assured us however that the problem is not that socialists or socialism has failed, rather that it has been too successful. People have become ‘spoiled’ — his actual words — and thus forget their allegiance to socialism and allow themselves to be ‘tricked’ by the right.

In other words, the problem is not with the left (Die Partei hat immer recht), it is with the people.

I asked if people were perhaps not tricked, but legitimately voting against the left because they objected to socialist policies such a massive spending and multiculturalism.

He responded that these issues were indeed difficult for ‘common people’ to comprehend, and therefore for the right to take advantage of. He reiterated however that the problem was not with the policies, it was that people did not ‘understand’.

This was a revealing statement, for it is a typical line of thinking across the left-wing political spectrum, from the most hardened communist to the most moderate social-democrat. While all leftists claim to be for the ‘people’, at the same time they have utter contempt for the people.

They believe they know what is best for the people, and if the people — uppity ungrateful peasants — object, then the people be damned.

Bertolt Brecht — ironically himself a dedicated Marxist — poked fun at this leftist mentality in a now famous poem, Die Lösung (The Solution), following a workers uprising against the Communist East German government in 1956.

After the uprising of the 17th of June
The Secretary of the Writers Union
Had leaflets distributed in the Stalinallee
Stating that the people
Had forfeited the confidence of the government
And could win it back only
By redoubled efforts. Would it not be easier
In that case for the government
To dissolve the people
And elect another?

What was once a joke however, is now sadly becoming a reality.

Having long forfeited the trust of the left-wing elite, the European people are indeed being dissolved, and another elected, through the leftist imposed mass-immigration and multiculturalism.

Let us hope the people continue to revolt before it is too late.
