Justin Burr Tells His Constituents to Shove it
A couple of weeks ago the North Carolina state legislature passed Senate Bill 411, “AN ACT TO CHANGE THE CANDIDATE FILING PERIOD FOR THE STANLY COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION, TO CHANGE THE MANNER OF SELECTION OF VOTING MEMBERS OF THE STANLY COMMUNITY COLLEGE, TO ELIMINATE PARTISAN APPOINTMENTS FROM THE STANLY COUNTY BOARD OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, AND RELATING TO VACANCIES IN THE OFFICE OF SHERIFF OF STANLY COUNTY.”
The bill is basically a bag of dirty tricks authored primarily by Li’l Prince Chucklehead
himself, to manipulate the political outcome in Stanly County elections. For instance, one thing the bill changes is now having members of the Stanly County school board elected at-large, rather than by district. Stanly County has become fairly Republican so the idea is to create a permanent Republican super majority by changing the rules.
In an even more transparent move by Burr, the law changes the way the Stanly County Board of Elections is chosen in that rather than two of the three members belonging to the same political party as the governor, which is currently the case, two members of the board will now be chosen according to which ever political party has the highest voting registration in the county. Gee, no ulterior motive on that one, huh.
Naturally, the Stanly County Democrats are displeased with the actions of Li’l Prince and drafted up a resolution yesterday chastising his devious ways. Their resolution can be read here. Chucklehead’s response? With all the class and tact he could muster, he got the following off his hairless chest once and for all.
When asked about his take on the resolution, he replied, “It is really a useless resolution. I don’t care what they like or what they don’t like. The bill sat publicly for 96 hours so they had plenty of time to review it. Obviously what the problem is, is that they don’t like the fact that they’re not in charge anymore. The Democratic leaders are has beens and I’m not concerned with their resolution. It is not worthy of my response. They are not elected leaders. They’re just a local party and their values are not the values I have or the majority of the county has. So they can’t speak for the county.”
Can’t say he’s not forthright, can we.
