Michele Bachmann: Deport Every Illegal Alien

As the “Cain Train” explodes over revelations of a 13 year extramarital affair, Michele Bachmann is positioning herself to the right of every other candidate in the Republican presidential field on the subject of immigration.

Bachmann has come out in support of deporting all 11 million illegal aliens in a series of stages. The criminal underclass would be targeted in the first wave of deportations. She has launched an attack on current frontrunner Newt Gingrich for his support of amnesty and renewed her attack on Rick Perry over the Texas DREAM Act.

Meanwhile, Perry is attempting to rebuild his credibility with the Republican base on immigration by promising to deport all detained illegal aliens and by securing a high profile endorsement from Sheriff Joe Arapio. 

Newt Gingrich, who is leading in the polls in Iowa and South Carolina, is alternating between praising South Carolina’s immigration law and adopting the rhetoric of its enemies, “What is it that you’re going to do? Are you really going to go in and advocate ripping people out of their families?” he said.

Romney is positioning himself to the right of Gingrich on immigration, “It’s a mistake as a Republican Party in trying to describe which people who’ve come here illegally should be given amnesty, to be able to jump ahead of the line and the people who have been waiting in line.” 

Michele Bachmann is the only candidate in the Republican presidential field who seems to be genuinely opposed to illegal immigration and who has a consistent track record on that issue.

If Gingrich fades like Perry under scrutiny of his immigration record, Bachmann could reemerge as the logical alternative to Mitt Romney.
