Senate Passes Minibus Spending Bill
Yesterday, the Senate easily passed a minibus spending bill to fund certain parts of the federal government through fiscal year 2011.
The legislation combined three appropriations bills to fund the Departments of Agriculture; Commerce, Justice and Science; and Transportation and Housing and Urban Development in one $128 billion spending package.
The bill passed easily by a vote of 69-30 with one member not voting, and will now go into conference for compromise between the House and the Senate before heading to the President for signature.
$128 billion for the Departments of Agriculture, Commerce, Justice, Science, Transportation, and Housing and Urban Development. Other than perhaps the Justice Department, not a single one of these bureaucracies are vital to running this country nor are they even a legitimate Constitutional function of the federal government. So why did 69 U.S. Senators, including Kay Hagan (D) and Lindsey Graham (R), feel it perfectly acceptable to burn through another $128 billion when we owe a national debt of $15 trillion?
