Believing the Lies: A Look at the Latest Production of the Obama Propoganda Machine

Warning: The following video may make you throw up in your mouth a little bit!

The recently released Obama love story video,’The Road We’ve Traveled’ debuted recently and will almost certainly go viral with the help of the main stream media. However, like the American Dream video, I’m hoping that this video goes viral not because of the incessent Obama swooning, but because of important criticism and the exposure of lies and deliberate deception.

…Ironically, the main stream media will likely fawn over this new propoganda, while ignoring stories about Obama signing into law a bill that could make free speach a felony (HR347).

The video starts out with Tom Hanks narrating, asking the question: “What do we remember in November of 2008?” And again, even after almost a full term in office, we have the Obama campaign running on the “but I inherited that problem” slogan. Quickly they paint the picture saying “over 3.5 million jobs [were] lost in the 6 months before [President Obama] took office”. Oh, and they have a very impressive graph to prove it. What they fail to mention is that unemployment continued to soar under president Obama from just over going from 7 1/2% when he took office , to over 10%. Not to mention that unemployment has averaged over 9% during Obama’s presidency and despite recent improvement, unemployment is still higher than it was when the he took office.

So the spectacular stimulus package they spent the first few minutes flaunting may not be so spectacular. They even go so far as to show a picture one of the American Recover and Reinvestment Act signs which in many in some cases cost as much as $10,000 for a single sign. That’s your (and your children’s) tax dollars hard at work. Thanks Obama!

After embelishing on what little there is to brag about in the stimulus package, Mr. Hank’s soothing voice then moves on to the Auto Industry bail out. How while many wanted the auto industries to go belly up, President Obama wouldn’t let that happen. So again, money was taken out of your and your children’s pockets and send to the auto executives. Later in the video they claim that GM fully paid of its loan to the US government and “business is booming”. While GM has seen profits unlike anything in their recent past, the idea the US government no longer has a stake in GM is a gross distortion of the facts. According to politifact.com “The Obama administration– through the Trouble Asset Relief Program (TARP) — committed approximately $52.4 billion to help right GM. Only a fraction of that, $6.7 billion, was in the form of loans.” So in fact, they have only paid back a small portion of what we actually spent bailing them out. According to an ABC news article written March 9, 2012, the US taxpayers still own roughly one quarter of GM. And instead of paying us back (since, after all, business is booming), GM is investing in a French car company that is drowning in red ink. Chalk up another victory?

Next, considerable time is spent talking about the health care overhaul, bragging about how Obama “refused to compromise”. While I think enough has been said on this topic for me not to delve in too deep, I will say one thing; President Obama called individual congressmen into his office for off the record meetings in order to get this legislation passed. If that kind of back room dealing isn’t a compromise, we have a real problem.

But no Liberal propaganda video would be complete without talking about how Obama brought a “responsible end to the war in Iraq” calling it “a promise kept”. Just to clarify, president Obama followed the draw down policy outlined in the “US- Iraq Troop Withdrawal Agreement” made by President Bush in 2008. In fact, President Obama wanted to leave troops in Iraq after the Jan 2012 deadline, but Iraqi leadership refused to endorse a U.S. troop extension and instead indicated that they should leave.

Obama’s presidency has not been a total failure though. The “road we’ve traveled” video then discusses the President’s decision to move forward with the operation resulting in the killing in Osama Bin laden saying “If [Obama] was wrong, his presidency was done. over.” -Biden… and for once, Biden was RIGHT! Now don’t get me wrong, I am delighted that Bin laden is no longer a threat, but we undermined Pakistan’s sovereignty but taking a unilateral unauthorized military action in their country. Had Bin laden not been there, we would have put our relationship with Pakistan on the rocks for nothing. This was an enormous risk and despite the reward of killing Bin laden, we are paying for it through strained relations with a country that has unsecured nuclear weapons. I’m not saying the decision was wrong, but it came at a price and with significant risk.

They then proceeded to quickly list off some of president Obama’s accomplishments such as, reforming the student loan system, cracking down on credit card companies and lenders, and changing the way the world sees us. He conveniently failed to mention that president Obama also failed to close Guantanamo after promising to do so, added 6 trillion dollars to the nation debt (almost doubling it), extended the patriot act, was the first president in history to publicly order the assasination of a US citizen, violated his own ban on lobbyists working for the administration, signed into law a bill that allows for the indefinite detention of US citizens, pushed for mandatory DNA testing of those arrested for crimes (regardless of whether they have been convicted), increased government secrecy by blocking more FOIA requests in 2009 than Bush did in 2008…do I need to continue?

Look, I get it people, the video was narrated by Tom Hanks. How can you not believe it? But honestly, calling this obvious Obama infomercial a documentary is enough to make even Michael Moore blush. It’s time to look at facts, not rhetoric. It’s time to educate the masses.

As the Greek philosopher Plato said “The price of apathy towards public affairs is to be ruled by evil men.”
