Full Interview with author James Pera

24 April 2012: Former San Francisco police officer James R. Pera knows the 1960′s Marxist subversive group the Weather Underground. He knows them well – very well.

It was February 16, 1970 when he was in his patrol car headed back to his police precinct in San Francisco at Park Station. His sergeant, 44 year-old Brian V. McDonnell, badge # 1001, was at the station along with a number of other officers. Pera was less than a minute away when a bomb, filled with anti-personnel shrapnel – pieces of barbed wire – ripped through the flesh of anyone in the way. When Pera arrived, he believed his sergeant was dead as pieces of shrapnel, made from barbed wire fencing, ripped through his carotid artery. Sergeant McDonnell desperately fought for his life for two days, but ultimately succumbed to his wounds.

Another  fellow police officer, Robert Fogarty, was severely wounded as he took the deadly shrapnel in the face.  Eight more officers were also wounded. The carnage that Officer Pera witnessed was certainly not easily forgettable. Pera and others were “lucky,” though. The bomb was on a timer and detonated prematurely. Had it gone off when programmed, the death count would have been much higher due to the location of on-duty officers.

The FBI investigation determined that the bombing was the work of the leftist, communist domestic terrorist group called the Weather Underground, formerly known as the Weathermen, a name taken from a popular Bob Dylan song. The Weather Underground was an offshoot of the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), a domestic, left wing terror group advocating the overthrow of the “American system.” Headquartered in Chicago, SDS claimed over 500 branches. Among its leaders were Mark RUDD, Milton ROSEN, Jeffrey GORDON, Michael KLONSKY, Carl DAVIDSON, Rennie DAVIS, Allen HABER, Tom HAYDEN, Carl OGLESBY and Bernadine DOHRN.

The Weather Underground operated throughout the U.S. in the 1960′s and 1970′s, conducting numerous bombings of government buildings, banks and even targeting individuals. Among its most infamous members were Bernadine DOHRN and her husband, William AYERS, both confidants of putative U.S. President Barack Hussein Obama.

Over 40 years later, justice has eluded Sergeant Brian McDonnell and other victims of the Weather Underground. The Park Station bombing remains unsolved – at least “officially.” According to allegations of a FBI informant, it was Dohrn who allegedly planted the bomb on that fateful day in 1970. Larry Grathwhol, a FBI informant who successfully infiltrated the Weather Underground during that time, alleges that there are “irrefutable and compelling reasons” that indicate Bernadine Dohrn, along with her husband William Ayers, are directly responsible for the bombing.

To date, however, no arrests have been made and the case remains unsolved.. and justice denied.

Book synopsis: Ryan O’Hara is a Army Green Beret who is suffering from war wounds and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Along the way he encounters a group of disillusioned former intelligence and military operatives who are after some of the same people albeit for different reasons. He allies himself with them and together they carry out their deadly mission in such a manner that suspicion focuses on the office of the Chief of Staff to the President of the United States.

This is a violent tale of vengeance and delayed justice made necessary by a failed system that allows treasonous murders to escape punishment.
