Do You Really Care About Abortion?

This is one of those ‘thinking out loud’ articles written more out of frustration than anything else.  I don’t have any compelling arguments on a topic or an interesting story to share or provide commentary on.  Rather, I have something that has been eating at me for days and I want to get it off my chest as well as get your opinions on the matter.

A couple days ago I shared a video of a former abortion doctor giving his testimony against abortion.  If you didn’t take the time to watch, let me give you a quick, graphic rundown.  He explained the steps of the procedure starting with sucking the amniotic fluid out through what was essentially a large straw.  Following the removal of the fluid, he showed the tongs used to extract the child from the womb.  First you tear off the limbs.  Yes, I said tear off.  The child does not come out in one piece.  After the limbs are removed, he explained the next step of extracting the head.  As the tongs squeeze down on the head, a white matter runs out.  This matter is the child’s brain.  At that point, you are sure what you have a hold of is the head.  As you pull the head out, he described how the eyes of the child very well may be looking right at you.  He was sure to point out, with his medical expertise, that the child can feel this procedure and that the pain would be excruciating. 

I personally felt more compelled to share this story with everyone than any other I have come across in my time as a blogger.  While the blog does have a Facebook page, I also have a personal profile on Facebook.  If you are a friend of mine there, you know I rarely cross the lines between the blog page and my personal page.  I am very conscious of others opinions and their sensitivity to politics.  Many of the people that are on my friends list didn’t add me to hear about my political viewpoints.  Being so cautious is actually a roadblock to this blog because I am so unwilling to ‘force’ it on or even share it with others, but it is something I feel strongly about and will stick to. 

With this particular video, I decided it was worthy of sharing on my personal page.  I DO NOT believe abortion is a political issue.  Murder is not something one party allows and the other doesn’t.  Abortion is clearly a matter of a God given right to life that no one has the authority to take away. 

So with some hesitation, I shared the video on my personal page.  Several days later, I have one share, one comment, and two likes. 

I considered doing a little experiment by finding a story about the abuse of a newborn and seeing what reaction that would get, but I already know what the results would be.  Even a story about the abuse of a puppy or kitten would draw more attention than this video.  I have taken note of stories of abuse in the past.  People talk about the abuser being garbage, a waste of life and deserving death.  They wonder how such a thing could be done to such an innocent child and are infuriated by the story.

Why then are we so reluctant to speak about the realities of abortion?  I can promise you, a large percentage of my Facebook friends are Conservatives that care about the sanctity of life, but for some reason they avoid abortion related articles like the plague.  How is it, someone as sensitive as I when it comes to peoples political beliefs, feels comfortable about sharing this one subject while others won’t even acknowledge it. 

What the doctor in that video described is government sanctioned murder.  Rather than being infuriated and taking action, we either praise the procedure as providing a ‘choice’ or we simply ignore it.  I can promise you, as a Christian man who believes God blesses those who work for Him, we can not prosper as a nation while we kill His children. 

It’s time to get angry.  Abortion is murder.  It is not an issue of Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, Independent, etc.  Can you watch or read the description of how a child’s limbs and head are torn off without wincing?  If the eyes of that child looked back at you, could you look into them and say we have done what is best for them?  Ending abortion is the single biggest step we can make as a nation. 

Let’s stop talking about debt, personal privacy, healthcare insurance, birth certificates, and foreign policies.  We are allowing the murder of over a million children per year.  What would the reaction be if we fought a war that cost a million lives?  How can Liberals be so concerned about Mitt Romney’s bullying of kids decades ago, while they support politicians who make the murder of those kids legal?  What would make you think the national debt is more important than life?  After all, isn’t the entire idea behind keeping the debt in check about securing the future of our children?  Yet we will place that debt directly in front of the future of millions when we say it is more important than abortion.

Pray for those innocent lives tonight and pray that we may take action to end this evil procedure.  I have faith I will see the day when this nation no longer takes part in abortion and I thank the Lord that he sent his only son to die for us, so we may be forgiven for allowing such a thing to happen on our watch.
