Wanna meet another federal judge who rewrote a law to suit his fancy today?
I’m thinking it must be judicial brain rot day. See if you can wrap your heads
around this seemingly simple question which landed in my news feed this morning.
When is a year not a year?
When Federal Judge Dickinson R. Debevoise consults his crystal ball,
that’s when.
The state Supreme Court was wrong to rule that the state constitution’s
one-year district residency requirement for candidates should apply in
years when the state changes its legislative districts, a federal judge
ruled this week.
U.S. District Court Judge Dickinson R. Debevoise’s decision comes in response
to the state Supreme Court’s decision to invalidate Assemblywoman Gabriela
Mosquera’s (D-Camden) November election victory because she had only lived in
her district for 10 months.
Ten months does not a year make. Everyone in New Jersey
agreed. But that’s no obstacle to Judge Debevoise! He’ll just rewrite our
State Constitution to suit his idea of “fairness.”
“… during reapportionment years, the one-year requirement cannot possibly
serve to … prevent carpetbagging when the constituency has only existed
for seven months.”
John Roberts would be so proud! He put on his black robes, peered into the
minds of Nancy Pelosi’s democrats, and
pulled an Obamacare tax out of his ass. Not to be outdone though,
Judge Debevoise held a seance or something and divined that back in 1947
when they wrote our State Constitution the good people of New Jersey didn’t
intend for “one year” to mean “twelve months.” Seven. Seven is more than
enough.
But then, neither of them can hold a candle to Barack
“I won’t enforce the laws I don’t like” Obama. Or
the Contemptible Eric Holder, Barry’s erstwhile Attorney General and
arms dealer to violent Black Panthers and Mexican drug lords everywhere.
I used to have respect for the law.
Today? Not so much.
