“2016:Obama’s America” – Movie Review

There is no escaping the fact that every one of us is a product of the environment in which we grew up. As such, those distinct elements of our formative years that guided our personal evolution are woven tightly within the fabric of who we are as individuals. The way we think, the way we view life and others, and the moral foundation that we possess are inseparable from those people and events in our lives that forged those things within us. Sometimes, the connections between an attribute of a person and the origin thereof are blurred and untraceable. Other times, those connections can be clearly and distinctly seen. “2016:Obama’s America” is a documentary in which author and director Dinesh D’Souza explores the events and individuals prominent in Barack Obama’s life from childhood to the present, and attempts to use these facts as a way of exposing Obama’s world views and overriding philosophies for what they are. Dinesh D’Souza does a masterful job of uncovering details of Obama’s influential years, and does so with a purposefully unbiased approach which serves to allow one to learn about Obama without becoming defensive of him.

To Dinesh’s credit, he spends a good deal of time in the beginning of the movie opening up to the audience about his own background and personal history. In so doing, the viewer can see that, more than most, Dinesh is able to relate well to Barack Obama’s own story and the circumstances in which he was raised. Besides this candor giving the viewer the reassurance as to the author’s ability to truly empathize with Obama, Dinesh’s frankness about himself also results in an additional sense of authority and trustworthiness within the narrative.

The facts revealed in the movie do begin to emanate sinister overtones early on. Anyone with even a basic knowledge of this administration will be able to connect the dots between Obama’s actions over the past four years and the dark and influential dogmas he was immersed in his entire life. As a child, he was subjected to these by his mother, grandparents, and one Frank Marshall Davis (mentor and card-carrying Communist Party member) who themselves were staunchly anti-capitalistic and even radically liberal. Later in life, Obama purposefully sought out individuals of like mind and political persuasion with whom to fellowship. Obama admits as much in his own autobiography, a work which Dinesh himself cites on numerous occasions. Based on Obama’s history, and as Dinesh aptly put it, the founding fathers of America are not Obama’s founding fathers. Rather, Obama’s founding fathers consist primarily of Frank Marshall Davis, Bill Ayers (admitted terrorist), and Jeremiah Wright (radical anti-American preacher), as well as a plethora of other leftist groups and affiliations.

Though the movie is touted to be about what four more years under the Obama administration would look like for America, Dinesh spends a good three quarters of the time painstakingly unraveling Obama’s world view and political perspective and exposing the anti-colonial, anti-capitalist people and experiences that molded Obama into who he is today. To prove his theory that Obama himself operates based on anti-colonialism, Dinesh examines many of the blatant acts executed by this administration and connects them to their underlying catalyst within an anti-colonial mindset. Everything adds up, and everything Dinesh proposes and hypothesizes falls perfectly into place, including predictions Dinesh made about actions Obama would take, which later came to pass. All of these facts lead the viewer to agree whole heartedly with Dinesh’s conclusion that Obama’s motives and agenda are to correct the sins of Colonialism and to downsize America for the sake of reducing her strength and influence in the world.

On the back of that undeniable conclusion, Dinesh then extrapolates four years into the future, following Obama into a second term where re-election would not be a concern and where he would have complete flexibility to pursue his agenda. I won’t divulge the details of the movie’s ending, but I am sure the reader can imagine the dark fate that awaits America under the executive authority of a man whose brand of patriotism is one of destruction from within.

I walked in to this movie expecting to be thoroughly educated as to Obama’s personal history; and I was. I, and thousands of others, had already known since 2009 that there was something wrong with this man’s point of view, so we didn’t come to be convinced of that. But we didn’t know exactly what the flaw in Obama’s character was or why he was behaving in a way that continually resulted in further damage rather than reconstruction and repair. Some of us concluded the only thing we could, that the man truly hated America and was bent on her destruction. But what this movie helped me to understand was that the reason Obama’s actions could not be comprehended was because we as Americans are not familiar enough with Colonialism to have been able to recognize a man with anti-Colonial sentiments. We saw something, we knew it was negative and had to be removed, but we were completely incapable of discerning it or being able to label it for what it was. We are such a young nation, and unlike Dinesh’s native India and Obama’s Kenya, Colonialism is as foreign in our mind as Constitutional Patriotism is in Obama’s mind. Thanks to Dinesh D’Souza and the movie “2016:Obama’s America,” now we have a name for what we see this administration doing to our country. Now we know without a doubt that what we thought we were seeing was absolutely right. Now we know for a fact that if we are going to save our country and be able to recover it for our posterity, we must vote Barack Hussein Obama out of office in an undeniable landslide on November 6th.
