If “Boycott” Means “Hang Them From Lamp Posts,” I’m In

I started “boycotting” virtually all commercial TV (other than the news) over 20 years ago, so it’s no skin off my back. Got sick of what Breitbart’s John Nolte likes to call the “sucker punch” — that little jab the conservative viewer so often gets from what is expected to be unbiased programming. That sucker punch sneaks up on you when you think you’re in for a night of politics-free, ideology-free, escapist entertainment, but instead you get smacked in the face with an unsubtle denunciation of your deeply held conservative values. The bad guy is the pro lifer, or the priest, or the tea partier, for example.  Certainly, not everything Hollyweird puts out is blatantly hostile to conservatism, but I’m not interested in being insulted even on an occasional basis, so why subject myself to it? It’s not so much a “boycott” as an “F* you, I don’t need this, ” and like I said, I’ve been doing it for over 20 years.

Most people don’t notice the sucker punch, because they haven’t attuned themselves to be sensitive to it. But it’s always there. The heroes are always lefties. The villains are always conservatives. Corporations are always evil. You think a West Wing with a Reagan-type President heroically portrayed could even get made?

There are other aspects of the cultural war that bear mentioning, too – especially the crescendoing war on men evident in all media programming, even commercials for laundry products or cell phones or cars. That’s worth a story in itself.
