MEDIA MYTH ALERT: In run-up to Obama-Romney encounter, myth of JFK-Nixon presidential debate circulates anew.
Actually, the notion that radio listers though Nixon had won the debate, while TV viewers gave it to Kennedy, is not a myth, or at least if it is, is was certainly not “exploded” by the Vancil/Pendell article cited as demolishing the notion.
That article itself is loaded with opinion, qualifiers, and nothing even close to resembling significant evidence that the radio/television gulf did not exist.
In fact, one could go so far as to say that the idea that the “myth has been exploded” is, in fact, itself a myth.
