Stephen Colbert on Meet the Press (VIDEO)
Comedy Central’s Stephen Colbert stopped by NBC’s Meet the Press Sunday and offered a rare glimpse behind the scenes of his satirical political news program and pulled back the curtain a bit on his character’s motivations, intentions, and ambitions. I know many of you are less than fond of Comedy Central’s “political” programming. Your emails have made that abundantly clear. But because I happen to enjoy a good laugh from time-to-time, I’m going to continue posting Comedy Central videos here and sharing your ridiculous emails with my friends over beers.
Let’s just be real here, folks. Anyone that turns on Comedy Central without doing the mathematical shorthand to realize he/she is not turning on legitimate news programming, probably has no opinion having an opinion on the state of politics in the first place. We’re not talking about real genius here. We’re talking about dialing up a station with “Comedy” in the title and assuming the news produced therein is supposed to be on the level.
Either way, the interview was relatively interesting. Colbert rarely shows the side of him that’s not the character we see in front of the camera. While it’s hard to see where the line in drawn between the two, the interview does provide a sneak peak into the process of “recreating the news.”
