Voter Fraud at Oberlin College???

Poll Observers were out in full force on November 6th. They were working for several groups; Republicans, Democrats, Pro/Con Issue1 or Pro/Con Issue 2 to name a few.

One Democrat observer was able to roam freely about the facility, speaking with voters waiting to cast their votes, asking questions of the polling officials and even permitted to obtain names and addresses of provisional voters in two of the four precincts at Phillips Gym. That was later found to be a direct violation of the voter’s privacy and the Observer was forced to return the provisional lists to the polling officials. Actually, the fact that the Observer touched any election materials is a violation of voting laws. The poll workers are there to help the voters and to protect their right to vote and the privacy of the information they give in order to make that vote count.

Students, showing a lease agreement, were permitted to vote without verification that they were indeed the student named on the lease. At least one person, maybe a student, wondered into the gym, walked up to the voting machine, touched it and looked it over good completely unchallenged. Now, you and I both know that no one should enter a polling place and proceed to a machine without being authorized to do so by at least one of the four Presiding Judges.

In the coming months, we will hear more and more about similar instances taking place all across our country. Is it really that hard to make certain that you are a legal voter in America? Perhaps we need the Lorain County Board of Election officials to go out and conduct voter registration and training classes for students. A few more poll officials to watch the voters and others who might wander through would help as well.

If you don’t think you are over taxed and under represented; keep your eyes and ears open over the next few months – you may want to change your mind.
