How Many Deaths Does It Take?

Okay, here’s one to get the crazies from all quarters riled up.  By all accounts Syria’s Assad has murdered, that’s right, MURDERED untold thousands of his own citizens.  What have we done to help those people?  Publicly nothing and apparently secretly not much.  I’ve already told you how sick this makes me.

Of course the “non-interventionists” still think it’s none of our business that millions of helpless people are being subjected to slaughter.  Liberals nearly faint at the mention of war and mealy mouthed conservatives have begun taking a very dove-ish approach to things in light of the expense of war for a country like ours which is going broke.

But now the news is that the Assad regime is loading bombs with Sarin gas and intends to use it against its own people.  Suddenly the rubber is about to meet the road. 

So, though I was urging a more pro-active approach a long time ago now, and was told that my suggestions were old school republican war hawk talk, what say you now?

Do we simply watch innocent people die and talk about how horrible it is?  Maybe the waiting game and the diplomacy will result in the removal of the Assad regime.  But at what cost, not only in terms of the lives of the Syrian people, but at what cost to our resolve as a nation to protect human rights?
