Iraqis under Saddam’s dictatorship could own all the guns and ammo they wanted. (Arabs like guns, in case you haven’t noticed.) Yet they still lived under tyranny. For some reason this fact hasn’t registered with America’s Second Amendment advocates who still hold to the illusion that our guns protect our freedoms.
Consider all the assaults on our freedom and self-reliance which have happened any way, despite all the guns we own: the Federal income tax; Social Security; Medicare, affirmative action; environmental laws; the Patriot Act; Obamacare. Democracy doesn’t need to take our guns away to enslave us.
This was a great “wake up and smell the coffee” response. This video had me feeling all kinds of weirdness in my body. I can see the imbalance of power, governments having guns, but like you said, I can see the injustices still perpetrated on the people even without strict gun control. How about, all guns, bombs, wars, wargames, violence against animals, hunting for sport, violence in movies and video games, etc….. Why not go to the root of the problem. This culture glorifies violence, desensitizes the masses as it relates to violence, and then scratches its head when something horrible, like a mass shooting occurs. This country built on a foundation of violence, so how about getting deep down in there and getting rid of that. The greatest Military power in the world, wants to control the guns of its citizens? But goes around the world killing other country’s citizens? The US is the only country in the world allowed to be free of guilt when it kills others home and abroad?? It’s twisted, it’s convoluted, it’s bizarre and it ain’t about curing the violence. Our children suffer because of this twisted reasoning and manifest how twisted this reasoning is when they kill others.

We cannot lose sight of these questions about the injustices being perpetrated on people, etc. this is so important, because my understand about this is that once the society values are eroded in these ways, then you could expect that the final assault of supporters of marxist agenda would be exactly remove guns from the already apathetic citizens, thus rendering them defenseless. Of course there are good people who are not hate-filled that own guns. Good responsible people. But there are enough tragedies where even those gun owners have their own guns turned on them, or accidentally killing kids, or not where they are needed when they come under attack. The fact is that at the Aurora shooting as well as at the shooting of Gabby Giffords, there were armed people present. But none of them responded to the shootings…. Why? Because when the cops arrive, how do they discern who the original shooter was? In a dark theater, how do you know that you are shooting at the perp? Good people who own guns and have common sense and good training know better than to get in the mix under those circumstances.
We all must come to understand, and accept, what is really happening behind the curtain.

There is so much nonsense posted by the pro-gun lobbyists in the USA. Where I live (Ireland) some criminals carry guns, but they don’t use them against other innocent citizens, they use them to murder rival gang members.
I’m glad I don’t live in America.
Where I live (Republic of Ireland) even the police (except special units) are unarmed, and the majority of policeman here don’t want to carry guns. The same applies also in most parts of the UK and New Zealand, and possibly other countries. Even though criminals carry weapons they almost never shoot policemen because the police don’t pose a lethal threat to them. The very very few policemen killed in the Republic of Ireland (last one probably 15 or more years ago) would have been a result of so called “political” violence related to Northern Ireland. The last policeman killed by a criminal was around 3 or 4 years ago and he was killed after being hit by a stolen car. As regards gun attacks by criminals on “ordinary” citizens, these are very rare and most victims of shootings are usually rival gang members.
As for burglars, they almost never carry guns – why would they need to, because they know that the householder won’t have a gun. But if householders were permitted to own guns then you can bet the burglars would arrive armed and would probably win out as they’d have the element of surprise.
The argument against gun control in the USA is sometimes based on the fact that if you really want a gun then even if banned these mass killers would still get them – that’s true – BUT because it’s going to take time and effort they have a chance to come to their senses, and the trouble they’d have to go to would probably draw attention to them. The easy access to firearms makes it so much much easier for these mass killers, especially for impulse killers, and anyone who cannot see the crystal clear logic in that is either blind or doesn’t want to see.
I have a five year old grand-daughter and I would shudder at the idea of her teacher being armed, or even having to learn the drills. The innocence and freedom of childhood wiped out once they go to school. Arming teachers is total insanity.
It seems that the American gun lobby puts a higher value on their so called “right” to carry around lethal weapons than on the lives of innocent children. Do you really think that what happened in that school in the USA last week is a price worth paying for your constitutional “rights”.
To link the rise of dictatorships in Europe with the citizens not having guns is absurd. Should the citizens not have the right then to own a tank and a fighter aircraft – that’s where this argument would lead to. In Europe we still have a largely unarmed population and our Governments are using their weapons to kill or subdue their people. Remember that in a democracy the Government is elected by the majority of people, and as one of the duties of any government is the protection of its people, so calling this a “monopoly of violence” is just totally wrong. As far as I know in most Arab countries everyone is allowed to carry guns, but most still live under dictatorships.
I think the American people should be given the opportunity in a referendum to strike out the insane provision that gives people rights to own guns. Constitutions that were written a couple of hundred years ago were written in a totally different environment and can and should be changed to meet the needs of contemporary society.
Of course nothing in the USA will change in regard to gun control, regardless of how many more innocent lives will be sacrificed to preserve Americans’ so called “right” to own firearms.

Hitler got himself into power by using violent armed citizens to overthrow the democratic government at the time. What about all those Arab citizens that own guns and yet still live under brutal dictatorships. And whenever these armed citizens do actually overthrow a government – guess what – they become the new dictators.
If the killer of the school children hadn’t had easy access to his mother’s guns then perhaps whatever insane impulse he had at the time might have abated. If you think that the easy access to guns was not a factor in the school killings then you are deluding yourself. As in all of these cases of murders in schools, shopping centres and cinemas, it was the easy access to guns which made it so, so much easier for the perpetrators. You’re totally stupid if you cannot see that.
As from freedom, here in Ireland (in the EU) I am free – I’m particularly free of the worry of being gunned down. If I have a crash in the car I don’t need to worry that the other driver may have a gun and shoot me, if I skip a queue will I get shot, no – the worst I’ll get would be verbal abuse. Freedom from fear is real freedom. We live in a democracy and we must take into account not just our rights, but the fact that some rights might put others at risk. With rights come responsibilities.
Citizens should have the right to use guns, provided they are in licensed and regulated gun clubs, and most importantly that the guns are kept in secure storage at the gun club, and not taken home. That’s what happens here.
Do you think the deaths of these infants (and the adults too) in that school, is a good price to pay for your rights under the constitution. If you believe that your constitutional rights takes precedence over innocent lives then it’s time to flush the constitution down the toilet.
Lets just stick to the real issue. The biggest threat is not guns. It is the lunatics that arrange this stuff to get their Gun Control way.

Say the USA government did become tyrannical then the answer is really so simple – let the militias overthrow them. But guess what – can you not see the next step?
