How to Make Your Own Podcast Artwork Using Gimp

I do podcast artwork just for fun. Today I thought I would go over how you can use Gimp to create your own podcast artwork or artwork for really any media file. All the specifics you really need to know is that for Podcast Artwork the size is 1400×1400 px. That is what iTunes has set as the standard as and it seems that everyone else followed suit. I use a PNG extension because those seem to retain the best quality. You can use a JPG file but the quality may take a hit but the file size (in megabites) will be considerably smaller. These images can also be attached directly to the audio file using mp3 tagging software and itunes does it as well.

Since actions speak louder than words I thought I would try my hand at making a tutorial. Since this is my first attempt at making a tutorial so be gentle on me in the comments, lol. I use clip art from Open Clip Art. The images are creative commons with attribution so you must attribute the artist somewhere on your site or in the podcast notes. This tutorial is not intended to show that podcast artwork as an exact science. It’s like painting a picture or writing a fictional story. You are creating something so you just go with what comes out of your mind. You can also use this tutorial to create your own wallpapers, forum signatures, twitter, Facebook, Google+ profile images and fan pages. So go download Gimp and just start playing with it. Their are a tons of tutorials on YouTube just do a search and make sure you have a little time to watch them.
