Dear Chris Rock & The Rest Of You Sore Losers

Hey Chris, Jesse, Al, and the rest of you folks who think the Oscars are a fair process for anyone, let alone Blacks in Hollywood, they aren’t-PERIOD.

Going back decades and decades, the

Oscars have awarded best picture, best actor, best director, to those who are the most popular, those who advertised and lobbied hardest. One doesn’t have to look past Sunset Blvd at the myriad billboards that line the strip and beyond to know that those who advertise hardest get the nods.

For you to say it’s racial is not only ludicrous, but is the height of sore-loserdom. In fact, I’ll go a step further and say this-look no further than the percentage of blacks in America (about 16%) and you’ll know why Hollywood makes movies and television more for a white audience than for a black one. At the end of the day, Hollywood is a business. Who spends more to go see movies? 66% of the population (whites) or 16% of the population (blacks)? Who? Whites do. It’s simple economics.

Tell me Mr. Rock, what was your income last year? How many of the top comedians in America are black? How much is Anthony Anderson making for his starring role on “Blackish?” What was Tyler Perry’s bottom line gross personal income last year? All of the answers to those questions are indicators-strong ones at that-of an integration in Hollywood that exceeds the black percentage of our population. Additionally, what is Jay-Z’s net worth? Beyonce? Barack Obama-THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES?

OUR country is a fair place. You and I were born with the same opportunity. In fact, I’ll bet you had it easier than I did growing up. I’ll bet you had more opportunity, your parents did better financially than mime, and let’s face it-I work a real job-you write jokes….you have it easier now than I do too (though I do actual important work, while you add no real value to society by writing jokes). In the end, there is equal opportunity for all in America-or at least there is supposed to be. If I were an illegal alien, my kids would get free money for college in Illinois where we live. If my kids go to Eastern Illinois where I went, I will pay north of 17K/yr for a mediocre education for them, while illegals’ kids can go to U of I and get a top flight education for half that-by being granted my tax money to pay for their education. Point is, the cards are stacked to the benefit of minorities in America.

If you want more movies with black characters, so more black actors can get their day in the sun-fund them with your own money! Take the risk yourself! You see, someone puts up the dough for the movies-and they want a return. Given the 25% black unemployment in our country these days, there is far greater risk making films with all black casts than there is making them for white audiences! The risk is great enough in film making and television that money is lost on 80%+ of all feature films made. Why would a funding source want to add to that risk by making a feature film for 16% of the population, 25% of whom are unemployed and cannot afford the $15/ticket to go to the movies? I haven’t read about you putting your millions into funding films-so stop your complaining. If it is so important, put your money where Tyler Perry put his-into a studio to make films for the audience you feel is under served, and the artists who you feel don’t get their due.

I strongly urge you Mr. Rock to take an economics class and some business classes. Learn what it takes to run a business. Learn about the risks involved with investing in motion pictures. Ask around. No one can get money for movies right now-the studios are the only source. They make films for broad audiences, so as to mitigate their risk. I would assume you aren’t funding a bunch of movies because you understand that risk-and you aren’t willing to do that which you demand of others-typical liberal hypocrisy. Grow up. You’ve had it handed to you on a silver platter. You make a grotesque amount of money doing what you love. Give some back if it’s so important and fund some features with all black casts, and see how much money you make. If you are as good as Tyler Perry-you’ll get richer. If not, you’ll understand why Hollywood makes their films for a white-ish audience. It’s all about the risk-and risk is not something that rich people like to take, as you have proven time and again!
