A PRIEST in Belgium has been stabbed, allegedly by an asylum seeker he had allowed in to his home to use his shower.

Father Jos Vanderlee, 65, reportedly suffered injuries to his hands during the incident.

Belgian police were called to the scene

Nieuwsblad reported that the suspected went to Vanderlee’s house to ask for a shower and told him he wanted to apply for asylum in the Netherlands.

After he showered he demanded money and a skirmish followed.

That is when he drew the knife on the priest, whose hands were slashed in the confrontation.

The assailant fled the scene.

The priest was rushed to hospital but is not in a serious condition.

The attack happened at around 2.40pm local time.

The mayor of Lanake Marino Keulen, said: “Despite the fact that we are shocked, we must stress that this incident can not be linked to terrorist acts at this stage of the investigation.”

The pastor had recently celebrated his 40th year in the church and is resonsible for eight parishes in the local area.
