Living A Normal Life, But Then There’s This Thing With The State Fair

I have to tell you, since I haven’t been spending much time on this blog life is nicer. I still have to work and do everything around the house that needs to be done with two kids, a dog, a cat and a husband. But at least I’m not constantly thinking about what I’m going to post next. I can read or listen to the news and just move on, like a normal person. Well, at least mostly normal.

The New York State Fair is coming up. Every year we, and thousands of others in and around our community, take a Centro bus from the little mall in my town to the Fair. We have to pay for the service, but it’s nice not having to sit in the Fair traffic and deal with the massive parking lot that either is dusty or muddy depending on the weather. It’s also great for the teenagers who don’t drive yet. Some of them have jobs at the Fair, and the shuttle is their only way to get there. But unfortunately for us, Centro, which receives a lot of taxpayer funding, has decided to eliminate our shuttle stop.

They say they are doing this to provide better service, because the shuttle we used was so extremely popular that people complained about waiting. We’ve never waited for more than 15 minutes, but maybe others have during really busy periods. Anyway, our only choices now are driving right to the Fair and dealing with that, driving to Destiny USA which is its own traffic nightmare, or take the normal bus through our area to the hub in Syracuse and then take a bus from there to the Fair, hoping we don’t get robbed on the way home if we stay past dark. Many of us are going to choose to just stay home, and miss out on seeing the millions of dollars in improvements to the Fair that our tax dollars are funding.

So I’m trying, through Facebook and word of mouth, to get people to start complaining about this and get this one little service, that we pay to use, restored. We pay a lot in taxes around here and most of us don’t see much in return. Centro is still providing the service to the northern and western suburbs of Syracuse, but they have cut off everyone to the south and east. It’s just wrong.
