Revolt AGAINST Trump: 900 US officials sign ‘dissent memo’ BLASTING ‘Muslim ban’

A STAGGERING 900 US State Department officials have signed a “dissent memo” criticising Donald Trump’s ‘Muslim ban’, a senior official confirmed.

Diplomats and foreign service officials signed the internal document which argues the temporary suspension of certain migrants is un-American and will damage the US international standing.

A draft memo adds that Trump’s executive order will worsen relations with the affected countries.

White House spokesman Sean Spicer slammed the diplomats who have signed the document and warned they should “get with the programme or they can go”.

Trump has been frustrated by diplomats failing to throw their support behind the campaign pledges he has attempted to follow through with during his first week in office.

The President took to Twitter to condemn the Democrats for holding up key Cabinet appointments and his Attorney General pick.

He tweeted: “When will the Democrats give us our Attorney General and rest of Cabinet! They should be ashamed of themselves! No wonder D.C. doesn’t work!”

The Republican is expected to announce his pick to fill the US Supreme Court vacancy at Wednesday 1am GMT (8pm ET).

Despite Trump’s ban suspending all refugees entering the country, 872 refugees are expected to enter the US this week.

US Customs and Border Protection agency commissioners Kevin McAleenan said the migrants were allowed to enter the US as they were ready to travel and denying them entry would cause them “undue hardship”.

Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly also claimed that the seven Muslim-majority countries affected by the ban will not be taken off the the list any time soon.

Kelly added that citizens holding dual nationality will also be allowed to enter the US using their non-restricted nation passport.

The executive order signed by Trump has put a 120-day halt on allowing refugees into the US, an indefinite ban on all refugees from Syria and a 90-day period where citizens from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen from entering the country.

Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan came out in support of the ban but questioned the “regrettable” confusion in its implementation.

Mr Ryan said: “We can be generous and watch our national security at the same time.”

“There is nothing wrong with taking a pause and making sure we have the proper vetting process so we do not have a problem like Paris.”
