Armstrong Biopic Leaves Out Planting American Flag on Moon

Since kids don’t learn much in school these days, our knowledge of history is largely conveyed by Hollywood. This institution is unworthy of being entrusted with the sacred duty of preserving our heritage and national identity. To get an idea of the extreme distortion that Tinseltown injects, consider that First Man, an upcoming biopic about Neil Armstrong, does not include his iconic planting of the American flag on the moon.

The movie stars Canadian Ryan Gosling, who justifies the conspicuous omission by honking that putting a man on the moon was a “human achievement” as opposed to an American achievement.

On the contrary, the greatest engineering feat in human history was a very American achievement. America is the only nation in history that has been able to achieve it.

If Canadians were to accomplish something, say, crossing the Yukon on a dogsled at impressive speed, Americans would be happy to respect them for it. Yet Gosling won’t grant deserved respect to America, despite making $zillions from Hollywood.

Gabbles Gosling:

“I think this was widely regarded in the end as a human achievement [and] that’s how we chose to view it. I also think Neil was extremely humble, as were many of these astronauts, and time and time again he deferred the focus from himself to the 400,000 people who made the mission possible. … So I don’t think that Neil viewed himself as an American hero.”

True enough, Armstrong didn’t do it single-handedly. But what nationality were those 400,000 people?

Contra the moonbats barking that we don’t want to sully this great accomplishment with American flags, planting Old Glory on the moon was the explicit purpose of the mission. To quote JFK, from his Rice Stadium Moon Speech:

Those who came before us made certain that this country rode the first waves of the industrial revolutions, the first waves of modern invention, and the first wave of nuclear power, and this generation does not intend to founder in the backwash of the coming age of space. We mean to be a part of it–we mean to lead it. For the eyes of the world now look into space, to the moon and to the planets beyond, and we have vowed that we shall not see it governed by a hostile flag of conquest, but by a banner of freedom and peace.

The historical context for the first moon landing was the space race with the Soviet Union. If communist tyrants had beaten us to the moon, Hollyweird would inject the hammer & sickle into every promo poster for First Man.

They didn’t beat us, because it took four things to get that flag up there: (1) the wealth generated by economic freedom; (2) American know-how; (3) the courage of American heroes like Neil Armstrong; and (4) what moonbats call “jingoism” and regular Americans call patriotism, which provided much of the motivation.

It may be that the flag planting was excised so as to pander to the communist Chinese audience — an important economic consideration for Tinseltown these days. If so, look for future historical depictions of the space program to claim it was all accomplished with technology stolen from China.

Or maybe the distortion is driven by sheer moonbattery, in which case future audiences will learn that the first person on the moon was actually an African American transsexual who planted a rainbow flag.
