President of the Toronto Police Association on Proposed Handgun Ban

Mayor John Tory is among the moonbats calling for a ban on handguns and “assault rifles” in Toronto. The pretext, as usual, is that this will supposedly reduce violence, which has increased in traditionally peaceful Canada thanks to the importation of Islam. The actual objective is the disempowerment of the individual, as always with progressives. Mike McCormack, President of the Toronto Police Association, confirms it:

“There’s no way in my world or any world I know that this would have an impact on somebody who’s going to go out and buy an illegal gun and use it to kill another person or shoot another person.”

McCormack notes that people who use guns to commit crimes already face large prison sentences, so additional gun law penalties are inconsequential. He says that a gun ban would be a “notional gesture at best.”

At worst, it would be a power grab. Liberty lost is not easy to recover. Already, most Canadians are not allowed to protect themselves by owning a handgun.
