Forced Political Conversion in the Taylor Dumpson Case

American University black student leader Taylor Dumpson sued Evan James McCarty of Eugene and two other defendants for racially harassing her with an online “troll storm.” Dumpson played the victim card well, even getting herself diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.

Behavior toward Dumpson was inexcusable. Andrew Anglin, publisher of The Daily Stormer, posted her personal information and egged on readers to harass her. However, the settlement is more appalling than the crime — not for its severity, but for its nature.

As part of the settlement, Mr. McCarty agreed to assist Ms. Dumpson in her legal efforts against his two co-defendants, Mr. Anglin and Brian Andrew Ade.

Mr. McCarty must also apologize to Ms. Dumpson in writing and on video. She may use his video for “civil rights advocacy, outreach and educational activities,” the settlement states.

He agreed to undergo anti-hate training and at least a year of counseling, complete four academic courses on race and gender issues and do 200 hours of community service related to racial justice.

During the Korean War, communists subjected captured US soldiers to similar treatment.

Now I get why the Eighth Amendment forbids unusual punishment.

Punishing people with forced speech and political indoctrination is un-American to the last extreme. What they can do to neo-Nazis, they can and will do to the rest of us.
