“Happy Holidays” Irritates 10 Times More People

It will be a big win for the bad guys in the War on Christmas if they can bully us into bleating the meaninglessly generic term “Happy Holidays” instead of saying “Merry Christmas.”

As usual, progressive social engineers exploit our own niceness and consideration as a tool to control us. They convince us that it will make innocent victims feel offended and hurt and excluded if we acknowledge Christmas.

No one wants to be offensive and hurtful and exclusive on Christmas. But this isn’t about being considerate. It is about politics:

A new NPR/PBS/Marist poll reveals that “Merry Christmas” remains the favored seasonal greeting for 56 percent of Americans, with 31 percent preferring “Happy Holidays.”

The difference is correlated with party affiliation:

The poll found a 33 percentage point gap between “happy” Democrats and “merry” Republicans.

If you think saying “Merry Christmas” really will irritate anyone other than moonbat Grinches, think again:

[A] Gallup survey showed that 10 times the number of people were irritated by hearing the supposedly neutral “Happy Holidays” than by “Merry Christmas.”

As for fretting about offending the tiny minority that finds “Merry Christmas” objectionable,

People are only driven further apart when they are forced to walk on eggshells out of fear that some sullen victim-in-waiting will take exaggerated offense at their innocent, heartfelt expressions of good cheer.

However, for the sake of maintaining public order, you should refrain from saying “Merry Christmas” to members of the liberal media, for whom the phrase constitutes fighting words. According to James Hamblin at The Atlantic, if you say “Merry Christmas,” you are a Christofascistic white supremacist:

It is an homage to an era when the nation was Christian and any other religion was second-class, and when whiteness meant unquestioned authority.

A featured editorial at the Washington Post angrily shrieks, “Don’t wish me ‘Merry Christmas’: I don’t celebrate it — and I don’t feel like explaining that to you.” Presumably the author Julia Ioffe does explain her objection to Christmas or there would be no point to the editorial, but I couldn’t bear to ruin my Christmas cheer by reading it.
