Jeff Flake Pushes Carbon Tax

Holding up crucial judicial nominations for the sake of his petulant posturing was not enough for former John McCain Mini-Me Jeff Flake. Before blessedly leaving office, he had to deliver one last poke in the eye to the Republican Party and to his constituents.

Outgoing GOP Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) and Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.) introduced a carbon pricing bill Wednesday that aims to help cut climate change causing emissions.

The landmark bill would charge fossil fuel companies a tax for their carbon dioxide emissions.

Whether CO2 emissions have any significant effect on the constantly changing climate remains a matter of theory. But there is no question that this idiocy would have a negative effect on the economy.

The Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act would charge $15 for each ton of carbon emitted into the air and would increase that fee by $10 every year afterward, in an effort to fight climate change.

If this becomes law, the economy will eventually collapse beneath the ever-increasing burden of the fee. Meanwhile, the climate will continue to fluctuate no matter what we do.

The money confiscated will be given back to taxpayers, minus Big Government’s fat cut. Morons will think it is free money. The apparent purpose is to distract people from skyrocketing energy costs.

Like most everything related to the global warming hoax, the bill is tyranny on steroids.

[T]he Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) at any time could intervene to regulate greenhouse gas emissions if the taxes prove to not be effective at cutting emissions…

That would give the unelected bureauweenies of the EPA regulatory power over literally all human and even animal activity. The rest of the government would be superfluous; radical EPA kooks would theoretically enjoy a level of power unprecedented in the annals of authoritarianism.

Flake will be out of Washington before the bill gets serious consideration. The damage he is causing by letting Democrats claim their climate radicalism is bipartisan will live on after his dead political career.
