National Popular Vote Bill Passes Nevada Senate

Democrat ideas are not awful at a merely superficial level. They will wreck the system of government laid out in the Constitution, which is the most stable system the world has seen over the past few centuries. Democrats are serious about destroying the Electoral College, which establishes a balance of power between urban and rural parts of the country, allowing even states with small populations to have a say in how it is run. Yesterday, Democrats pushed a National Popular Vote bill through the Nevada Senate:

Assembly Bill 186, which passed the Senate on a 12-8 vote, would bring Nevada into the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, an agreement between participating states to cast their electoral votes for the winner of the popular vote.

If signed as expected by Democratic Gov. Steve Sisolak, Nevada would become the 16th jurisdiction to join the compact, along with 14 states and the District of Columbia.

If a critical mass is reached, the Electoral College would essentially be rendered null and void. The winner of the national popular vote would be the winner, individual states be damned.

Democrats support this because the Republican candidate won in 2000 and 2016 while losing the popular vote. Their solution to this perceived problem is effectively to disenfranchise Flyover Country.

Big cities are characterized by corruption, excessive regulation, excessive taxation, widespread welfare dependence, cultural decay, and high minority populations. The Democrat Party is the urban party. It does well in states with large urban areas. Without the Electoral College, these would be the only states that matter.

Leftist groups like Common Cause, Indivisible and Public Citizen cheered the Nevada vote.

That should give you an idea how pernicious it is. The bill enables California and New York to help themselves to Nevada’s votes, regardless of which candidate Nevadans vote for.

Imagine an America in which people like Gavin Newsom and Andrew Cuomo are elected president every time. The Cold Civil War would heat up quickly as people who don’t live in densely populated blue states realize that they no longer have a vote — that they are ruled, not governed.
