I hate to say it, but I believe that we are headed in the direction of a 2nd civil conflict. Not like the last one, at all. And I rather agree that current archaeology found better prosperity of the vast majority of Romans during the Roman Republic and vast real working poverty after. That and their own experience with the elite in Europe is the reason our Founding Fathers didn’t want America to have elites. As for all cultures having elites, history is a mixed bag. It is certainly a temptation for people to try to gain power over others. Freedom has succeeded sometimes when people were unselfish and at other times it failed.
