Crushing Excellence for Equity in NYC Schools

By definition, you cannot have both equity and excellence. Progressives choose equity. Those running New York City denounce excellence as “racist.”

From the New York Post:

A school-diversity panel created by Mayor Bill de Blasio wants to junk the gifted-and-talented programs and other forms of academic screening in city schools.

Arguing that such programs perpetuate racial inequality because they’re comprised mostly of white and Asian students, the School Diversity Advisory Group called on de Blasio and Schools Chancellor Richard Carranza to ditch the current G&T system, according to recommendations released Monday.

There is more to equity than preventing excellence. You also have to prop up the subpar:

The panel also recommended tossing academic admissions screening for middle schools and most high schools.

The panel’s recommendations will almost certainly be implemented by the likeminded moonbats de Blasio and Carranza. Parents who want their children to succeed will have another reason to do whatever it takes to get them out of public schools. Eventually, progressives will correct this by making public schools mandatory.

Utopia will be like a perfectly manicured lawn where every blade of grass is exactly the same height. To achieve equity, the education system will function like a lawnmower.
