Steele is absolutely on target when he says Americans have been made stupid. I have been an educational therapist for 25 years. I do cognitive testing and am a reading specialist … I give IQ tests and teach reading. Only a third of Americans can read proficiently … Development of verbal intelligence is dependent on reading … do not read and your language skills are stunted!!! Humans reason via language … poor language … poor reasoning!!! I have researched the history of reading instruction in the US … It has been deliberately sabotaged since at least 1900!! … Universities are still not adequately teaching teachers how to teach reading (or anything else, for that matter!) … America is an educational MESS!!! …
