Senator Ted Kennedy (1932-2009)
Senator Ted Kennedy died on this day in 2009. He was a US Senator from 1962 to his death, or almost 4 decades.
At first, no one took him too seriously. In other words, they thought that he was nothing more than a young man running on his brother’s name. By the way, that was true.
However, he did become a giant of the liberal side. Of course, his career was severely interrupted by Chappaquiddick in the summer of 1969. It made him very vulnerable outside of Massachusetts, as we learned in 1980 when he challenged President Carter for the nomination.
Again, I did not care for his politics but do recognize that he was a very important Democrat.
