There are some classic Ronald Reagan moments. The most memorable is probably his “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!” from his speech at the Brandenburg Gate near the Berlin Wall on June 12, 1987. His most succinct comment was in San Diego, November 3, 1980, when he told a heckler, “Aw, shut up.”
Then there’s this from the 1980 GOP debate: “I am paying for this microphone.”
Reagan would be considered a radical today by his own party that believes you can play nice with the Democrats and still make conservative political progress. Reagan knew you needed to confront the opposition directly even if it wasn’t politically polite. Unfortunately, he was later surrounded by swamp Republicans who said he couldn’t win unless he had an establishment Republican as a running mate. Enter George H. W. Bush.
Reagan didn’t need Bush, but he fell for the classic claim made by Establishment Republicans, “You can’t win without us and if you do win without us we’ll destroy you.” It wasn’t said in these words, but that’s what it was all about.
Here’s the important part of the “tear down this wall” story. Even Reagan’s administration officials wanted him to cut the line from his speech because they believed it to be an “outright affront to the Soviet leadership.” Here’s what Peter Robinson, Reagan’s speechwriter, says happened:
[T]he speech was circulated to the State Department and the National Security Council. Both attempted to squelch it. The assistant secretary of state for Eastern European affairs challenged the speech by telephone. A senior member of the National Security Council staff protested the speech in memoranda. The ranking American diplomat in Berlin objected to the speech by cable. The draft was naive, it would raise false hopes. It was clumsy, it was needlessly provocative. State and the NSC submitted their own alternate drafts — my journal records that there were no fewer than seven, including one written by the diplomat in Berlin. In each, the call to tear down the wall was missing.
The Berlin Wall came down, East and West Berlin reunited, and the Soviet Union collapsed. The Eastern Bloc nations regained their sovereignty and borders.
Trump is following in the footsteps of Reagan but trying to do something Reagan could not do — drain the Washington cesspool.

More bullshit. Just one more thing that senile ronnie took credit for that he had nothing to do with.
That wall would have come down anyway, and the Soviet Union would have restructured back into Russia.
East Germany and the Soviet Union had to to survive, they did it for economics and no other reason.
Just like Reagan took credit for Jimmy Carter getting hostages released.
Reagan was just another neocon big brother lackey who could follow the script they gave him. No doubt him being an actor was why they chose him, they knew he was dull witted enough to not be a problem and defect from the fold, and that he could read and follow a script.
Telling a heckler to shut up would not be “succinct” for a normal intelligent human being, but for reagan it was an accomplishment because it pressed the limits of his abilities.
The guy was a dud who was selected to serve a purpose, nothing more.
Among his accomplishemtns:
Raising taxes more than they ever had been by yanking federal money that taxpayers paid and in the past came back to the states, forcing state and local governments to raise property, income, sales, and excise taxes outrageously.
Doing away with the ability of the working man to write off all interest on his taxes. Before reagan I was able to write everything off, car loans, mortgage, credit card interest, ALL interest. Reagan did away with that, therefore giving the working man a massive tax increase.
Doing away with the Fairness doctrine, which kept the media in check and made sure special interest had no reason to buy media up.
Opening our borders wide and telling anyone who wanted to suck off of our system to come on in and enjoy the free ride with his “amnesty” program.
Because of reagan the nut house in the city I grew up in had to close, because it was partially federally funded, back when we were a nation that cared about the truly disadvantaged. Which shifted what was a tough problem, that of dealing with those with mental issues and deficiencies that caused them to be socially not functional. Now they are a criminal problem, with local police, jails, and prisons dealing with them and caring for them at a far greater expense. A local tax expense.
And lets not forget his Iran Contra fiasco which he should have went to jail for, and the fact he is a major reason both Bin Ladin
and Sadam rose to effective positions. It was the reagan mess that funneled money to Aghfanastan subversives and Sadam and gave both causes prominence and power.
Reagan fucked this country up for the working man. And his handlers showed him how to do it in such a way as to make him look like a boy scout. If not for him it is likely we would not have had terrorist attacks on this country and 911 ( if it is true the Saudis did it) would not have happened.
