WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to the Federal Communications Commision (FCC) petitioning the 3rd Circuit Court for re-hearing on its media ownership rules, Daniel Savickas, FreedomWorks Foundation Regulatory Policy Manager, commented:
“With new technological developments coming every year, the media landscape in America is changing rapidly. However, every time the FCC tries to reform decades-old rules and regulations that limit innovation, the same 3rd Circuit panel of judges forcibly reverts to the outdated status quo. These rulings are absent of any reasoning and ignorant of present realities.
“Traditional media like newspapers and broadcast radio and television are going out of business in the midst of the tech boom that has spawned alternative forms of news and entertainment. Instead of allowing the FCC to modernize ownership rules that would allow these outlets to pool resources to innovate and compete with newer technology, they seek to continue this framework that is increasingly making these forms of media obsolete. It is refreshing to see Chairman Pai and the FCC keep up the fight for free markets and open competition by petitioning for re-hearing.”
