Now We Can All Achieve Oppression

True equity is possible at last. Soon, all of us will be able to bask in oppression, thanks to the University and College Union.

“UCU has a long history (from predecessor unions) of enabling members to self-identify whether that is being black, disabled, LGBT+ or women [sic],” a six-page position statement from the union, which “represents over 120,000 academics, lecturers, trainers, instructors, researchers, managers, administrators, computer staff, librarians and postgraduates in universities, colleges, prisons, adult education and training organisations across the UK.”

The reference to “enabling members to self-identify whether that is being black, disabled, LGBT+ or women” comes up repeatedly.

All we need to do is expand this from academia to society as a whole. Then, everyone can be oppressed.

When everyone is oppressed, no one is oppressed. Then we can go back to taking responsibility for our own success and failure, instead of advancing at the expense of the more deserving by belligerently wallowing in sniveling self-pity. Everyone wins.
