FreedomWorks Statement in Response to Passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Enhancement Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to the House passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Enhancement Act, H.R. 1425, on a largely party-line vote, Jason Pye, FreedomWorks Vice President of Legislative Affairs, commented:

“In the ten years since Democrats passed ObamaCare, we’ve had ample time to evaluate how its top-down, one-size-fits-all mandates have affected our health care systems. Insurance premiums are up while benefits have decreased, millions of Americans have fewer choices of plans and doctors, and Medicaid enrollment has state budgets in crisis.

“This bill seems to represent a belief among Democrats that fundamental problems with ObamaCare can be solved merely by throwing more money at it and taking people’s choices away so they can be herded into the exchanges and Medicaid. Fitting in with this theme, its new socialist-style price control scheme for prescription drugs will reduce competition and innovation in U.S. pharmaceutical markets.

“A consolidated system with less choice and competition isn’t going to make our health care quality better, but it will be easier to transition into their ultimate goal of single-payer, total government health care.”
