RNC files emergency request with Supreme Court over requirements for mail-in ballots

Several Democrats are pushing for an immediate transition away from traditional in-person voting to a vote-by-mail system in all 50 states ahead of the 2020 election amid the coronavirus.

And Republicans just did something about it.

According to Fox News, the Republican National Committee has officially asked the Supreme Court to make an emergency ruling regarding a case involving relaxing signature and witness requirements for mail-in voting.

Republican leaders believe that Democrats are purposely trying to make mail-in voting harder for rural Americans and want the Supreme Court to intervene.

The case involves Rhode Island vote-by-mail requirements.

The RNC is requesting that state officials allow voters to vote by mail without requiring the documents to be signed and witnessed by a notary.

Republicans assert that the requirement for a notary discriminates against people who live in the country because they won’t have access to as many notorious before election time.

RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel says that Democrats are purposely trying to create problems ahead of the November election, and is asking the Supreme Court to help Americans stick with the systems that have worked in the past.

“This is all coming from the Democrats. The president is saying, ‘Keep the systems in place that have worked,’” McDaniel said.

Back in June, President Donald Trump sounded off on voting by mail.

During a radio interview, the president told conservative host Michael Savage that vote-by-mail could allow Democrats to cheat in the upcoming elections.

“We’re suing, and we’re filing another big lawsuit, I think, on Friday, and I think we have a good case,” Trump said.

Trump suggested that Democrats may try to swing the election by failing to send conservatives vote-by-mail ballots.

Trump said: “[California Democratic] Gov. Newsom announced that he’s sending out millions and millions of mail-in ballots. You say, ‘Who are they sending these to?’ Maybe people who are, let’s say, in a Republican district, and maybe those ballots, don’t get sent there. This is the craziest thing. This will be a rigged election if they are allowed to do it.”

Trump continued: “I think that’s one of the biggest risks I have. And the biggest risk, frankly, that the Republican Party has is mail-in ballots. It’s a very big risk.”

One issue many have with nationwide vote-by-mail is that it could potentially allow millions of inactive and possibly illegal votes to occur, which could have a huge effect on the outcome of the election.

This could be a disaster, according to at least one expert.

Government Accountability Insititute research director Eric Eggers says the Democrats’ plan for nationwide mail-in voting would send ballots to 24 million inaccurate and flawed voter registrations.

Eggers said nationwide mail-in voting would be wide open to fraud and abuse.
