All eyes on Joe from West Virginia

It sure feels like that Brooke Benton song about a lousy night in The Peach State:

“A rainy night in Georgia

A rainy night in Georgia

Lord, I believe it’s rainin’ all over the world

I feel like it’s rainin’ all over the world…”

It was a bad day in Georgia and it sure feels like it’s raining all over the GOP world.

The bad news is that I’ve felt this way before. It’s the same feeling I had on election night 1976, 1992 and 2008. The good news is that there is a remedy and another election day in the future.

In the short term, we can argue about the “$ 2,000 vs $ 600 checks” or the fight between the President and the Governor. I don’t know the answer but it did not help to have these distractions over the last 60 days.

So we look forward to Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia. Let’s hope that he keeps his word:

“I commit to you tonight, and I commit to all of your viewers and everyone else that’s watching. I want to allay those fears, I want to rest those fears for you right now because when they talk about whether it be packing the courts, or ending the filibuster, I will not vote to do that,” Manchin said in the interview. “I will not vote to pack the courts … and I will not vote to end the filibuster.”

In reality, there won’t be any significant “50-50 ties” to break if Senator Manchin sticks to his aforementioned statement.
