Democrat Police Policy Is Working

Maybe they only seem to be insane. The issue is never the issue with leftists; the issue is always more power. With that in mind, their seemingly deranged strategy of deifying lowlife criminals, egging on rioters, and demonizing the police is working:

“From Jan. 1 through Thursday, 79 Philadelphia officers have been accepted into the city’s Deferred Retirement Option Program, meaning they intend to retire within four years, according to Mayor Jim Kenney’s office,” the Philadelphia Inquirer reported. “During the same time period last year, just 13 officers had been accepted into the program, the office said.”

The department expects to be understaffed by several hundred people. Meanwhile,

Neighboring New Jersey is facing a “recruiting crisis,” according to Pat Colligan, president of the New Jersey State Policemen’s Benevolent Association.

Not only has manpower been reduced by the War on Police, so has quality of personnel:

Colligan also said the “quality has really diminished in the last few years,” which could mean more tragic police confrontations in the future.

This is excellent news for those who exploit such confrontations to advance their policy objectives.

In crime-infested Baltimore,

The Baltimore City Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 3 said there were “recruitment and retention issues,” which prompted the “topic of closing police district(s).”

Police work doesn’t pay well. People go into it because they want to be the good guys. But according to those who control the media and the government, police are now the bad guys. If the propaganda continues, only bad guys or those who can’t get other jobs will be willing to work as police officers.

The results of hamstringing the police, defunding them, and driving them into retirement or other careers are exactly as you would expect:

Black-owned businesses at the intersection where George Floyd was [supposedly] killed by police last year — now known as George Floyd Square — say they are in dire straits.

Black merchants near the once-thriving corner of 38th Street and Chicago Avenue said police have abandoned the blocked-off intersection, creating a dangerous autonomous zone that has seen crime spike and business evaporate. …

At least five stores along one block are shuttered. Owners and workers at most of the stores that do remain open were too afraid to comment to The Post.

Happy, Democrats? You bet they are happy.

When local police cannot maintain law and order, the federal government will have to replace them with enforcers loyal not to their local community but to Washington.

You don’t hear CNN shrieking about “systemic racism” in the FBI. That’s because the remote and hyperpoliticized FBI is a model for what Democrats now call “reimagined” policing. Another apt model is the Soviet Union’s NKVD.

Democrats take a similar approach to capitalism, weighting it down under taxes and regulations until it no longer functions, at which point they will declare that it has failed and impose a replacement.
