fighting the wrong enemy

I’m going to talk about liberalism so the first thing I need to do is to make it clear that I’m talking about social liberalism, not economic liberalism.

Social conservatives and traditionalists today seem to think that their enemy is liberalism. But liberalism is on the ropes. In the sense that the term used to be understood, it’s practically dead.

Wokeism and Social Justice are not liberal ideologies. Quite the opposite. If liberalism is about having the freedom to make choices then Wokeism and Social Justice are very definitely not liberal.

What’s interesting is that the mindset of Wokesters/SJWs on the one hand and social conservatives/traditionalists on the other are almost identical. Both groups firmly believe that moral behaviour can, and should be, enforced. If people don’t want to choose to be morally good then they should be forced to be morally good. They have very different ideas on what constitutes moral behaviour, but they agree that it should not be left to the free choice of individuals.

SJWs might claim to stand for choice, but they don’t. They might for example claim that we now have freedom because we can choose any one of 117 different genders. But in fact gender identity is just a prison with 117 different cells.

Back in the period from the 60s to the 80s, when social liberalism was dominant, if you were a man you could pretty much choose to be a man any way you damn well liked. If you were a woman you could more or less choose to be a woman in whatever ways you felt were right for you. Now you have to fit yourself into a narrow box.

Old school social liberals believed in sexual freedom. SJWs do not. They don’t really approve of sex (especially heterosexual sex) because sex is chaotic and liberating and hard to control. SJWs want total control, so they don’t really approve of sex. They only approve of certain types of sex, and only as a means of attacking social conservatives.

Old school social liberals believed in freedom of speech as well.

It’s very difficult to see Wokesters and SJWs as representing the liberal Left. They certainly don’t represent the social left or the Marxist Left either. They appear to represent the Fascist Left. The fact that these ideologies are pushed by an alliance of Big Business and Big Government lends further weight to the notion that they do indeed represent the Fascist Left.

The enemies today, in the social and cultural arenas, are not enemies that could fairly be described as liberals.

It is of course true that many older liberals support Wokeism and Social Justice, but they do this largely because they don’t understand that by supporting these noxious creeds they are in fact supporting enemies of liberalism. Ordinary people react slowly to changes in the political landscape. Most people see politics in terms of the political struggles that were taking place in their youth. That’s why both older liberals and older conservatives have failed to comprehend the rise of the Woke/SJW Fascist Left.
