TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK
Tropical Weather Outlook
NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL
200 AM EDT Fri Sep 24 2021
For the North Atlantic…Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:
The National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on Tropical Storm Sam, located about 1500 miles east-southeast of the northern Leeward Islands.
1. A gale-force, non-tropical low pressure system, the remnants of Odette, is located a little more than 600 miles west-northwest of the westernmost Azores. Showers and thunderstorms remain limited near the low, and this system has only a brief window of opportunity to become a subtropical or tropical cyclone while it moves generally south-southeastward over marginally warmer waters. Strong upper-level winds are expected to develop over the system by late today, which should then limit further development. Additional information on this system, including gale warnings, can be found in High Seas Forecasts issued by the National Weather Service.
* Formation chance through 48 hours…medium…40 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days…medium…40 percent.
2. A large area of showers and thunderstorms centered a couple of hundred miles east of Bermuda is associated with a surface and upper-level trough. Some tropical or subtropical development of this system could occur through early Saturday as it moves generally north-northwestward. After that time, development is not expected due to strong upper-level winds.
* Formation chance through 48 hours…low…20 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days…low…20 percent.
3. A tropical wave is expected to move off the west coast of Africa by the end of this weekend. Thereafter, environmental conditions are forecast to be conducive for gradual development, and a tropical depression could form by the middle of next week while the system moves westward at 10 to 15 mph over the far eastern tropical Atlantic.
* Formation chance through 48 hours…low…near 0 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days…medium…40 percent.
Air quality is in the middlerange of yellow for most of the county, with the ridges and other higher elevations today being in the middle range of green.
Fire and Smoke Map
(There is haze from the wildfires out on the west coast.)
Pollen levels are expected to be in the medium-high range (7.3 out of 12) today with Ragweed, Chenopods, and Grasses being the main culprits. Tomorrow is expected to be in the medium-high range (6.8 out of 12).

IMAGE RED SAND PROJECT
Zonta Club of the Franklin Area Red Sand Project
The Red Sand Project will be held in front of the Macon County Courthouse in downtown Franklin on Saturday October 2 at 9 a.m. Social distancing will be practiced and masks are advised.
Come and help to draw attention to those who metaphorically “fall through the cracks” and become victims of human trafficking. Women and children are more likely to be victims; unfortunately trafficking often goes unrecognized and is far more prevalent here than most people realize. Zonta will highlight how it affects our community and our country and introduce some of the organizations here that combat it. Participants will be given red sand that they will use to fill the cracks in the sidewalk, to draw attention to those who cannot advocate for themselves.
