The Biden administration is in talks to offer immigrant families that were separated during the Trump administration around $450,000 a person in compensation.

WSJ:

The U.S. Departments of Justice, Homeland Security, and Health and Human Services are considering payments that could amount to close to $1 million a family, though the final numbers could shift, the people familiar with the matter said. Most of the families that crossed the border illegally from Mexico to seek asylum in the U.S. included one parent and one child, the people said. Many families would likely get smaller payouts, depending on their circumstances, the people said.

Biden Faces Backlash For Considering Paying Illegal Aliens Separated At Border $450K: ‘Pure Insanity’

President Joe Biden faced significant backlash on Thursday evening over a report from The Wall Street Journal that said that the administration was considering paying illegal aliens that were separated from their families under the previous administration up to $450,000 each.

“The U.S. Departments of Justice, Homeland Security, and Health and Human Services are considering payments that could amount to close to $1 million a family, though the final numbers could shift,” The Wall Street Journal reported. “Most of the families that crossed the border illegally from Mexico to seek asylum in the U.S. included one parent and one child.”

There was widespread backlash from Biden’s political opponents over the report, including:

• House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA): “Pure insanity. The Biden administration is reportedly looking to pay $450,000 to illegal immigrants who knowingly broke the law. It’s a slap in the face to our law-abiding citizens who wake up, go to work, and pay their taxes.”
