WASHINGTON, D.C. – FreedomWorks is thrilled to announce the publication of America In Perspective, a collaboration between David Sokol, founder of Teton Capital and chairman emeritus of the Horatio Alger Society, and Adam Brandon, President of FreedomWorks.
In America in Perspective, coauthors Sokol and Brandon trace the thread of American history back to the Founding, analyzing pivotal challenges faced since then, to etch out a hopeful path forward and offer solutions to some of our nation’s most pressing threats.
Sokol and Brandon’s book comes at a time when public sentiment about the American Dream and our country is at an all time low. There is a malignant popular narrative that claims the American Dream is dead; this narrative has had devastating effects on citizens’ perceptions of our country and hope for the future.
To make matters worse, the ideals of meritocracy, consensus building, and self-healing upon which the American Dream is built are being constantly undermined in our current political environment. Through a policy agenda that seeks to root out these ideals and replace them with mediocrity disguised as fairness, cronyism, and wokeness, too many so-called leaders in this country are ready to surrender everything that has historically enabled Americans to thrive.
For anyone concerned about how we might get our country back on the right track, America in Perspective is a must read. America’s exceptional history–particularly, our advancement toward equal rights and ability to recover from some of our darkest spots, including the Civil War and Jim Crow laws–holds all the answers we need to progress beyond our current situation, if only we take the time to reflect. Thankfully, with America in Perspective, Sokol and Brandon have done this critical work of looking back to remind us that as long as we are willing to fight for it, the American Dream can prevail.
From the foreword, by Secretary Ben Carson:
“David Sokol and many other members of the Horatio Alger Society of Distinguished Americans came from backgrounds that would have made success difficult in America and virtually impossible elsewhere. But through this book, he and his coauthor, Adam Brandon, provide a prescient guide to the challenges and opportunities that are available to all in our nation.”
“We have seen enormous social changes in America, some of which are extremely helpful, but we have also seen the agents of division become much more powerful in our nation. We have seen the attempt to change us from a can do-nation to a ‘what can you do for me?’ nation. In order to gain political power, there are those who want to change us from a meritocratic society to one focused on dependency. The bottom line is that ‘We the People’ will be the final determinants regarding what kind of nation we have going forward. The things that provided our success in the past will also provide success in the future if we understand and use them. Those things include courage and willpower. We must remember that we cannot be the land of the free if we are not the home of the brave.”
