GENERAL OUTLOOK

Bermuda high pressure over the area will slowly weaken today as a cold front approaches from the northwest. The front will move into the area on Thursday and settle south of the region by Friday, with an additional reinforcing cold front moving through from the north by Friday night. Cooler and drier high pressure will arrive for most of the weekend, but with moisture returning early next week.

More widespread coverage of showers and thunderstorms is expected today into Thursday. With abundant moisture and potential for locally heavy or repeated rainfall due to slow storm motion, localized flash flooding will be of elevated concern during this time. Also, strong gusty winds remain possible within any strong storm Wednesday into Thursday.

For the North Atlantic…Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:

1. Eastern Tropical Atlantic:
A tropical wave located several hundred miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands continues to produce disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Some gradual development of this system is possible over the next few days. However, environmental conditions are forecast to become less favorable by this weekend. This system is expected to move westward to west-northwestward at 15 to 20 mph across the tropical Atlantic during the next several days.

* Formation chance through 48 hours…low…20 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days…low…30 percent.
