1927: Charles Lindbergh arrived in Paris

We remember that Charles Lindbergh landed in Paris in 1927. His plane “The spirit of St. Louis” had taken off from Roosevelt Field 33 hours earlier.
As a result of the flight, Lindbergh became an international personality and met his future wife during a trip to Mexico. He died in 1974.

The biggest bombing in the United States up until Oklahoma City happened the same day Lindbergh made his transatlantic flight, May 18, 1927. The reason nobody heard about it was because the story, normally would be on the front page, was relegated to the third page due in whole to the news about Lindbergh’s successful flight!
Bath, Michigan. A disgruntled farmer, Andrew Kehoe, snapped after learning of a millage that passed requiring the farmers in the area pay more taxes to fund the new school. This bankrupted the farmer, and he went on a rampage, killing his wife and firebombing his farmhouse. He then burrowed under the school, planting explosives (TNT, I think) underneath the school and also rigging his truck for detonation. After pulling the trigger and blowing up the school, he then sat out in his truck and waited for the fire brigade to show up. As the mayor, police chief and fire chief, along with the school principal approached his truck, he pulled the trigger, detonating the truck bomb, killing himself along with the Police and fire chiefs and the school principal. in all, 38 school children were killed, along with 6 adults and numerous people were injured.
There is a memorial in the Bath Middle school lobby. God Bless those poor kids and God Bless Bath.
