GENERAL OUTLOOK

Increasing heat and humidity is expected Friday into the weekend as high pressure dominates the Deep South. A weak front Sunday night will provide a bit of relief to the heat, but general ridging will quickly return, with temperatures still a bit above normal. Chances for showers and thunderstorms will continue through the week.

Hazards and Tropical Weather

Several rounds of thunderstorms are expected to develop near the Ohio Valley and move southeast toward the southern Appalachians today through Saturday night. The strongest thunderstorms may organize into a line and affect the southern Appalachians and adjacent foothills on both tonight and Saturday night. Severe weather will be possible from the mountains into the foothills, with damaging wind gusts the primary threat.

COVID-19 Numbers for Macon County:

Based on current COVID-19 trends, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is planning for the federal Public Health Emergency (PHE) for COVID-19, declared under Section 319 of the Public Health Service (PHS) Act, to expire at the end of the day on May 11, 2023. Macon County Public Health will stop publishing weekly COVID updates but will continue to monitor local case levels and trends. In the event that case counts increase significantly, MCPH will notify the public and resume weekly COVID updates.
