Redefining Crime to Stop Crime

Gary responds to a recent statement by attorney Ben Crump about redefining crime to help cut down on the targeting of blacks for criminal activity.

In 2 Timothy 3:17, Paul says that the Bible equips the Christian “for every good work.” The Bible gives us God’s opinion and direction in every area of life! The Bible is not just a book about worship. It tells a lot about worship, to be sure. In fact, worship is one of the most important things in the Bible. But that is not all the Bible teaches us. The Bible is not just a book to tell us how to run a church.

Paul says that the Bible guides us in every area of life. It not only teaches us, but actually equips us for every good work. It teaches about how to make a lasting and godly marriage. It teaches us how to raise our children. It tells us how to treat our neighbor. It tells us how we should spend our money. It teaches us what laws are best. It teaches us what kind of crimes the civil government should punish, and what punishments are best. It teaches us basic truths that can be applied in every area of study: history, medicine, law, sociology, economics, literature and art, and every other area.

Since the Bible is our ultimate standard, there is nothing more important in apologetics than a thorough knowledge of the Bible. The apologist must know what he’s defending before he can defend it effectively. Thus, the most important part of our preparation is to read, study, and meditate on the Scriptures.

Thinking Straight in a Crooked World

The nursery rhyme “There Was a Crooked Man” is an appropriate description of how sin affects us and our world. We live in a crooked world of ideas evaluated by crooked people. Left to our crooked nature, we can never fully understand what God has planned for us and His world. God has not left us without a corrective solution. He has given us a reliable reference point in the Bible so we can identify the crookedness and straighten it.
